Light and Dark

Beginning to install the work this week as the residency comes to an end, spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to work the space at St Augustine’s Old Schoolhouse best.  I hope to try to take into account the beams on the roof which are a focal point in the room.  I want to try to incorporate this within the installation process of my largest painting as I plan to have it free-standing.

Also thinking about light and how to best bring these dark paintings to life.  Hoping the darkness in these new works will stand out against the white space.  Shiny sharp layers sitting on top of flat matte brushwork is what I want to highlight.  The install of this work is integral as the paintings are so dependent on their surroundings due to the mediums used.

Thank you to everyone at Art Arcadia for the opportunity to complete this residency and exhibit work in such a wonderful space.
