Process/Failure

Inspired by the floors and exposed wooden beams of the site I have decided to revisit large-scale woodcuts. This is rather risky considering I rarely create woodcuts or prints on a large scale so to do so under a time constraint might seem like a strange choice. However, I feel important to create a work in wood because of the symbolism and personal inspiration from the way that wood is used in space. I simply cannot resist.

It hasn’t come without its challenges though. From mining my memory and resource materials, I’ve had some false starts with choosing the correct wood, reminding my body how to use the tools and how to complete the process. This piece was ultimately unusable because the type of wood wasn’t suitable. However, the process informs the piece and we’re always learning.
